F2K writing course and ezine

I've finished my first lesson in the F2K course, and I'm happy to report that though I did not win, I did get an Honorable Mention, which had me published in their ezine. YAY ME!!! I was super-stoked.

Now about the course. It's free folks, that's right, free. You get feedback from other authors, and one review from your mentor. (You can sign up for Mentor reviews on all your pieces, but there is a price.)

The first lesson was so different in it's approach that I was truly shocked. It was a wonderful character development exercise and most of the feedback was really helpful. The writing community that walk the halls of F2K are truly unique to any other writing community I've found online.

Okay, so maybe you don't get a professional to grade your work, but you get what you pay for. And in this little writer's humble opinion, F2K is doing a great deed by being free to writer's such as myself.

Follow Your Growth

If you are anything like me, you are learning more and more about writing every day. Whether it be through casually reading, your own writing or research, you are growing. Don't believe me? Have a look. Go back and re-read some of your older writings. You will be amazed at how far you've come.
Yesterday I took a tour around my old contest entries and I was appalled, disgusted, amused and finally, proud.
I was appalled at the grammar errors I had overlooked out of sheer laziness.
I was disgusted that in one story, I actually switched Point-of-View mid story and then jumped back again. I messed up tenses too - purely amateur stuff here.
I was amused at my former naivety (and the stories that have come out of my head.)
And then finally, I was proud that I could recognize these faults and errors, which means I have grown as a writer.
I was planning on going back over all my entries and fixing the errors. Then I changed my mind. I want to always be able to go back and dwell in the satisfaction of growth thus far.
Give it a go my friends, it's an amazing experience to see how far you've come.

A Free Writing Course

Greetings all,

I know I haven't been very active lately, I will admit not much writing has been getting done. A prologue, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 are complete but not to my satisfaction. Something is missing. Some crucial element that ties the writing to the pictures and words in my head.
Which leads me to the free writing course. I figured I needed a little extra help on the delivery of my sentences, on creating my scenes and finding "my voice". Low and behold, I get an email for a free writing course, so I checked it out. It actually seems pretty cool. I'm only in the orientation week, but so far so good. Everyone is really nice and helpful, and it's a fun community.
Its called the F2K writing course, and I'm not sure if they are still accepting students but if you wanna try to see if you can get in, the link is http://www.writersvillage.com/free/
There are instructions right on the main page explaining how to sign up for the course.
Happy Writing!
Nina
