10 Things to Tell Yourself to Avoid Writer’s Procrastination Guilt

10 Things to Tell Yourself to Avoid Writer’s Procrastination Guilt

By: Nina Pelletier

1. Going out and having fun will give me something to write about.

2. Tweeting involves writing and self-publishing, and therefore counts as writing.

3. Google+ing involves writing and self-publishing, and therefore counts as writing.

4. Leaving comments on blogs involves writing and self-publishing, and therefore counts as writing.

5. All authors must read, therefore reading tweets, google+ posts, and blogs count as reading and are making me a better writer.

6. I’m not surfing the net, I’m researching.

7. I’m not hanging out with friends, I’m doing character studies.

8. I’m not napping, I’m brainstorming.

9. My muse is on vacation.

10. I’m not socializing online, I’m networking.

My First Blog Hop

I'm joining my first Blog Hop. Do I have any idea what that means? Not particularly, but I've enjoyed reading the results of other Blog Hops so I thought I'd give it a go.
Visit RJR Daydreamer for details on this Hop. Looks like fun and you still have until the weekend to join.

Does your writing scare you??

I recently entered a contest on writing.com that has me a tad bit worried. I begin to wonder if Stephen King ever re-read his own work and thought to himself "Dang! I am one twisted F%ck!"
Have you ever written anything that has scared you? Something that has made you wonder what dark recesses of your mind came up with that story? Have you ever written something that has made you wonder if you need deep psychological help?
I would love to hear that I'm not the only one out there that is disturbed by what comes out of them when writing.

When nothing seems to stick...

No ideas for a novel seem to be sticking. Does anyone else ever have this issue? Is there a super glue for writer's out there that I haven't heard about? If I don't stick to a novel idea and theme, I'm afraid one won't be written (well duh!). Is this what they call "writer's block" or is it "writer's wall" because the ideas seem to pile on top of each other though none of them come to completion. My thoughts run crazily into each other and I can't seem to focus on one. Oh how I long for a nice warm sunny day to walk along the beach and be alone with my brainstorming little mind.

Any ideas on how to get past this?

For now i'm just jotting down any and all ideas that come to mind that mean something to me...

In desperation, I move on towards the glimmer of light I call hope... or madness ;)

Writer's block already?

It's true, I haven't even started the actually writing yet and I'm having writer's block. I'm stuck. I know how the main conflict is going to work itself out, but I'm not overly impressed with it. To explain what I mean I have to tell you a little bit about myself. Last year I started a novel and it was awesome. Every time I came up with a new twist or turn I got a rush like no other. I would get high and giddy, what an awesome feeling. I haven't gotten that once with this project. I never finished the other project because while I was working on it, my sister was murdered. My life was turned upside down and inside out, so trying to go back to anything before that is very difficult, in the case of the novel, it's impossible. Maybe someday...
So I'm disappointed that feeling doesn't come about with this novel and I'm stuck on the romance storyline of it all. So I did what any warmblooded woman would do, I went shopping! I got new pens, colorful sticky notes, highlighters, paper, a few notebooks, dividers and other paraphernalia. It hasn't helped the situation but I feel better and I got to spend time color-coding and organizing everything - which really just means I spent time making myself feel like I was being productive on the progress of my novel when I was just killing time. Hey if you can't fool yourself, who can ya fool?
